The Appraisal framework is an approach to exploring, describing, and explaining how language is used to evaluate, adopt stances, construct textual personas, and manage interpersonal positionings and relationships.

It is an extension of M.A.K Halliday and his colleagues (Systemic Functional Linguistics) and has emerged for almost two decades due to work conducted by a group of researchers primarily based in Australia - Martin & White (2005).
