ABOUT ASIA TVET EXPERTS FORUM (ATEF)
In the face of global competition, knowledge has become a heart and soul of
nation’s development. Today, TVET and the skill society are the foundations for
strenghtening future development. Technical and Vocational Education and
Training are vital to enhance skills that are necessary for poverty reduction,
economic recovery and sustainable development. Higher education throughout the
world has shifted their policy attention to technical and vocational education
and training (TVET).
As a technical premier university in Engineering & Technology,
Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) realizes the significance of TVET for
nations building. UTHM strives to put TVET in the mainstream education with the
goal of producing sustainable quality TVET graduates. Among the strategies plan
to realizing this pursuit is the organisation of the annual ASIA TVET EXPERTS
FORUM. The purpose of this Asia Tvet Experts Forum is to serve as a platform to
discuss current issues for solution the problems of Technical and Vocational
Education and Training (TVET) in facing global changes and challenges. This
forum will also serve as a platforms where members could share best practices.
This network will be an alliance to outline strategy and action plan to enhance
mutual collaboration among participating universities; to identify common issues
and opportunities for TVET research that would further strengthen the roles and
relevance of universities.
In line with the UNESCO-UNEVOC strategies for TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL
EDUCATION AND TRAINING (TVET) (2016-2021) to focus on equipping all youth and
adults with the skills required to not only find decent work, but also to become
active citizens in an equitable, inclusive and sustainable society. GIZ/RECOTVET
is committed to support and create personnel, institutional and thematic
preconditions for quality improvement and regional harmonisation in education
and training of TVET personnel in South East Asia through complimentary
programme approaches. One of the approaches, international networking, in
RECOTVET context esp. promotes regional exchange among TVET actors on policy and
implementation level.
Therefore, the organization of “Asia TVET Experts Forum 2017," is timely in
helping to boost TVET higher education arena in Asia. Moreover, this forum can
promote international cooperation in addressing TVET issues regionally. Asia
TVET Experts Forum 2017, will invite experts from around the world such as
Germany, Thailand, South Korea, Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar,
Indonesia, Singapore, Nigeria and the Philippines apart from Malaysia. Thus, by
co-hosting this forum, GIZ/RECOTVET will enhance TVET quality and skills
standard from various angles of engaged institutions and their specific roles
and measures to elaborate on a potential platform for skills excellence.
Hereof, the Asia TVET Experts Forum 2017 will be convened in two sessions.
First session: 17th July 2017 – Asia TVET Experts Forum will be held in KSL Hotel & Resort, Johor Bahru, Malaysia ,
second session: 18th July 2017 – will be held in University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia.
The Forum also would establish an Asia TVET Experts Network, which will serve as an association that connects all Experts in TVET, particularly in Asia region. This joint body will meet to discuss current issues related to TVET in higher education from time to time, and get involved in research grants or consultation projects related to TVET.
